Thirty six MLAs entered a MAC (Metropolitan Art Centre) competition which sought poems, paintings, drawings inspired by constituencies, political philosophy or simply a beautiful view. This was the first ever exhibition of its kind in the UK or Ireland. A total of 44 pieces of artwork were submitted and the panel of judges, including Wendy Austin, Eamonn Mallie and Neil Shawcross, were impressed with the high standard of work across the board.
South Antrim MLA Danny Kinahan was awarded overall prize with his painting, ‘An attempt at homage to Basil Blackshaw’. A poem entitled ‘The peloton of hope’ by South Belfast MLA Conall McDevitt and a photograph of Mussdenden Temple taken by East Londonderry MLA David McClarty were among the other winners.
