Pudsey the Bear Comes to the Assembly

Pudsey the Bear paid a visit to Parliament Buildings recently to help launch the 5th annual Family Fun Day which will take place on Bank Holiday Monday (4 June 2012).

The Family Fun Day is an all-day event for parents and kids taking place on the Stormont Estate and in Parliament Buildings.

Pudsey was delighted to know that Parliament Buildings would be open to anyone who wanted to see the 90 year old landmark. At last year’s Family Fun Day there were a record number of 2,300 visitors who came through the Northern Ireland Assembly’s famous revolving doors and when Pudsey heard that the Assembly wanted to break that record he nearly fell out of his bouncy castle!

This year, visitors to Parliament Buildings can take part in tours of the building, quizzes, craftwork and some storytelling and poetry readings.

Joining Pudsey to launch the event was the Minister for Finance and Personnel, Sammy Wilson MP MLA and Simon Hamilton MLA. Minister Wilson kindly tested out the bouncy castle for the kids while Simon Hamilton made a new friend in Darwin the Carpet Python who will be at the Fun Day to help educatevisitors on environmental awareness.

Parliament Buildings is open to the public all year round but Family Fun Day gives people a chance to see the building when it’s not in its usual business-mode. The Assembly is proud of its beautiful and historic building and is pleased to welcome all those taking part in events for Children in Need.
