CAL Committee Welcomes Sport Stackers

Parliament Buildings hosts its fair share of events, from the everyday plenary and Committee business, to the slightly more unusual. The Building has already hosted the Olympic Torch in recent weeks, but today, it was the turn of the Irish Sport Staking Team. Invited by the Culture, Arts and Leisure Committee, members of the Irish Sport Stacking team demonstrated their skills, showcasing why they were awarded 32 medals and one world record at the recent World Sport Stacking Championships in Germany.

Sport Stacking, an individual and team sport, sees participants stack and un-stack specially designed cups in a pre-determined sequence. The sport, which is growing in popularity, helps boost co-ordination and promotes the use of both sides of the brain.

View the video below to see the team members in action, plus watch Michelle McIlveen MLA (Chairperson of the Culture, Arts and Leisure Committee) and Mervyn Storey MLA (Chairperson of the Education Committee) get to grips with the basics.
