The Northern Ireland Assembly’s efforts to reduce its carbon footprint and improve its environmental management has been recognised by the Business in the Community Arena Awards gaining the highest platinum standard. The Assembly achieved this by installing dual fuel boilers and reducing both gas and electricity consumption. The reduction in electricity usage by nearly 10% came as the Assembly changed to low energy lighting throughout Parliament Buildings. As well, the Assembly was recently awarded the Consumer Council’s Water Champion status for improving water efficiency by 28%.
