Aiming Higher with The Northern Ireland Assembly

Fantastic; innovative; inspiring; and worthwhile -  just some of words used to describe the Aiming Higher programme.  Designed to enhance employability and opportunities for young people in care, the initiative is now in its final phase. The Northern Ireland Assembly is one of 59 organisations that have been involved in the project since 2013.

The young people have mentors who work across a range of business sectors in Northern Ireland, including Assembly Education Officer, Lucy McClelland.   To improve their employability skills and readiness to enter the workplace, 'work inspiration days' have been arranged by many of the mentors, and this week, it was Lucy's turn to welcome the young people 'behind the scenes' of the Assembly.
Young people and their mentors spent a day at Parliament Buildings with Assembly catering company Eurest, and Assembly Broadcasting team, Pi Communications.  The young people got an insight into working life and potential careers paths, and had the opportunity to quiz staff on the training and skills needed to do their jobs.
